Spicy Baby!

It is important to add herbs and spices to your baby’s food.  I believe that this helps to encourage children to enjoy different tastes and flavours.  You can introduce herbs and spices when your baby is 8 months old.  Add a pinch of herbs to familiar fruit and vegetables to see how it is received.  Remember to follow the 3 day rule, introduce a new herb or spice for 3 days before introducing any other new food or seasoning

In other countries it is normal to add flavour to baby food, so why don’t we?  A popular addition to baby food is curry!  Yes, curry is well received by babies, try mixing in some curry next time to cook up some broccoli with rice cereal and see how it goes!

Try these food combinations for your baby

  • Cinnamon & Sweet Potato
  • Curry & Carrots
  • Basil with Broccoli
  • Dill with Zucchini
  • Ginger and Apples
  • Nutmeg and Pumpkin
  • Oregano and Green Beans
  • Sweet Paprika and Cauliflower
  • Rosemary and Brown Rice Cereal

Remember to only add a pinch to a serving; add more seasonings only if you make up a large batch of food

Stay away from hot and spicy, unless it is a constant part of your diet.  If so, try a little pepper and see how your baby reacts to the flavour.
