Yummy for breakfast and lunch!

Yummy for breakfast and lunch!

I was recently at my Mom’s house searching for food to feed my little guy for breakfast and I came across an unopened box of Arrowhead Mills Organic Rice & Shine. I looked at the ingredient list: organic brown rice grits.  That’s it – one ingredientI love ingredient lists like that! So I followed the directions and cooked up my first taste of brown rice grits (being Canadian, grits are not a staple up here in Toronto!).

I cooked it up, added some fresh fruit (a little maple syrup on mine…) and it was delicious!  Both me & my little guy had a great breakfast.  Once I got home I bought myself a box.  It is a little pricey at $6.99, but it is a great cereal and it lasts quite a while.  Because it is rice it can be made sweet or savoury.  I have made it as I have made other cereals, you could substitute the oats in my Fruity Oats recipe with this rice cereal.  Click here: Baby-Mama Breakfast recipe.

This can be served to your 6 month old.

Adding vegetables like broccoli, peas and carrots, a little basil or thyme and you have a lovely lunch for your baby.

Add a little pureed fruit or applesauce to the grits as well as pieces of fresh fruit and you have a tasty breakfast.

Remember that if you want to make your own cereal, which is cheaper, you can get directions here .  There is also info there about iron supplementation in cereals, something I am not a fan of; this cereal will help ensure your baby has iron in his or her diet.

Enjoy!

Don’t forget about my summer contest (CLICK HERE!).

You could win a copy of Ricki Heller’s awesome cookbook.  Did you know she published it herself?  Check out her blog as well for more amazing sugar-free baking ideas and healthy recipes!
